THCA
Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) is the non-psychoactive precursor to THC found naturally in raw cannabis and hemp plants. In its raw form, THCA does not produce intoxicating effects. However, when exposed to heat through smoking, vaping, or cooking — a process called decarboxylation — THCA converts to Delta-9 THC and becomes psychoactive. This unique property makes THCA flower one of the most popular products in the legal hemp market.
THCA products are available primarily as flower, pre-rolls, and concentrates. Because THCA is technically not THC until heated, products containing high THCA levels can be sold legally in many states under the 2018 Farm Bill, provided they contain less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight. Legal interpretations vary by state, and the regulatory landscape continues to evolve rapidly.
